    Alan Berman

    RA AIA, President

“Principal Alan Berman created Archetype in 2001. Based in New York City, Archetype is a full service Architecture and Interior Design firm. In the late 1990s and into the new millennium, Mr. Berman served as Head of Architecture at Bed Bath & Beyond Corporate. Mr. Berman spearheaded the development of Bed Bath & Beyond prototype standards and streamlined the management, contract control, design documentation, scheduling and construction for the opening of over 300 Bed Bath & Beyond Stores throughout the United States.

In the mid 90s, Mr. Berman was project manager at Nadel Architects in Los Angeles, CA. He lead many a team through design and construction of retail centers, stores, malls and supermarkets.

I very much enjoyed working with this company when we bought our new apartment and redid it from scratch. Alan had a very good idea about the kitchen, which completely changed the look of the apartment. We made some changes which were not very expensive, but made a huge difference. Samantha and Alexis took me on a “shopping” trip to see what kind of furniture I liked and then recommended items to me that would fit my budget. We bought some expensive items and mixed them with some very reasonable items, and I am delighted with the results.

Archetype did an amazing job for me as architects for the gut renovation of a 8,000 sf townhouse. They created a great plan, paid attention to every detail, were highly responsive in making modifications, went over and beyond the call of duty to get drawings done with a very tight deadline, and were a pleasure to work with. Navigating the permitting process in NYC is complex and arbitrary, but working with Archetype made it quite painless. I look forward to having the opportunity to work with them again in the near future and would highly recommend them.
